Privacy policy

This policy explains what data QuoteChecked collects, who else can collect data when you visit, and what choices you have. It describes what this site actually does, not what a template says it might do.

Who runs this site

QuoteChecked is an independently run publication. It is not a company, a contractor or a lead generation service. For any privacy request, write to hello@quotechecked.com and put the word privacy in the subject line.

What we collect ourselves

Very little, and none of it deliberately identifying.

  • Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard technical data for every request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, browser and operating system, and referring page. This is used for security, abuse prevention and diagnosing errors. It is not used to build a profile of you.
  • What you send us. If you email us, we hold that message and whatever you chose to put in it. If you report a quote, the figures are used in aggregate to build the price ranges published here. We do not publish your name, your address or your email, and we do not pass your details to contractors, installers or lead networks.

This site has no user accounts, no login, no comment system and no newsletter. We do not ask for your name, address or phone number anywhere.

Advertising and cookies

This site is funded by display advertising delivered by Google, including through Google AdSense. This is the main way data about you may be collected here, so it is worth reading.

  • Google and its advertising partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve and measure ads. Where you have consented, or where local law permits it, those cookies may be used to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
  • Third party vendors participating in Google’s advertising systems may also set their own cookies. We do not control those vendors and we do not receive the data they collect.
  • We do not have access to any advertising cookie or to the identifiers inside it. Our own reporting shows aggregate figures such as impressions and revenue, never individual visitors.

Your choices about advertising

Consent

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for consent before advertising cookies are used, through a consent management platform certified by Google. Your choice is stored so you are not asked on every page, and you can change it at any time using the privacy settings control shown alongside advertising on this site, or by emailing us. Withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it, and it does not change what you can read here.

Analytics

No third party analytics service is currently collecting data on this site. If that changes, this page will be updated before the service is switched on, and the change will be covered by the consent process described above.

California privacy rights

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, the use of advertising identifiers and browsing information for cross context behavioural advertising can count as sharing personal information, even though no money changes hands.

  • We do not sell personal information for money. We do not pass your details to lead brokers, contractors or data brokers.
  • To opt out of sharing for advertising purposes, use the privacy settings control shown alongside advertising on this site, turn off personalised ads at myadcenter.google.com, or email us with the words do not share in the subject line.
  • Global Privacy Control. Where your browser sends a recognised opt out preference signal, our consent tooling is configured to treat it as an opt out request.
  • Your other rights include the right to know what personal information is held about you, to have it corrected, and to have it deleted. Email us and we will respond within the period the law requires. Because we hold almost nothing about you, in most cases the honest answer will be that there is nothing to disclose or delete beyond server logs and any email you sent us.
  • No discrimination. Exercising any of these rights does not change your access to this site.

If you are in the EEA or the UK

Where the General Data Protection Regulation or the UK GDPR applies, our legal bases are consent for advertising and any similar technologies, and legitimate interest for the security and error logs described above. You have the right to access, correct, delete and port your data, to object to processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority.

Children

This site is written for adult homeowners and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.

Retention

Server logs are retained by our hosting provider for a short rolling period for security purposes. Emails are kept for as long as needed to deal with them and to keep a record of any correction they led to. Quote data reported to us is stripped of contact details and kept in aggregate form.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. No system is completely secure, and because we deliberately collect so little, there is very little here to lose.

Other sites we link to

We link to manufacturers, contractors, government pages and other publications. Once you follow a link, that site’s own privacy policy applies. We are not responsible for what other sites do with your data.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date below changes with it and the previous position is not quietly rewritten. The most likely future change is the addition of an analytics service or a different advertising partner, and either would be disclosed here first.
