QuoteChecked is a price reference for people in the United States facing a heating, cooling or hot water replacement, written for the moment you are holding an estimate and wondering whether it is fair.
Why this site exists
There is a gap between what the internet publishes about HVAC prices and what homeowners are actually quoted. Search for the cost of a heat pump and you will find figures that differ by a factor of three, none of which explain what they include. Meanwhile the quote on your table is for a real house, a real capacity and a real installer, and none of those published averages help you judge it.
This site closes that gap in one specific way: by defining the scope of every figure it publishes and showing the full range instead of a comfortable average.

Information, not advice
Everything here is general market information. It is not professional advice about your home, and it is not a substitute for a licensed contractor. Sizing, equipment selection, code compliance and installation decisions depend on a load calculation and an inspection of your property, neither of which a website can do. Use our ranges to judge a number, then use a licensed professional in your state to make the decision.
How the site is run
QuoteChecked is run independently as a small personal project, not as a company. That is deliberate. It keeps the scope narrow, it means no sales team has any influence over the figures, and it means the only thing the site has to protect is the accuracy of its own numbers.
How it is funded
Through advertising, disclosed on every page. Advertisers have no input into how ranges are calculated and no visibility into them before publication. If that ever changes, this page will say so.
What we will never do
- Publish a figure we cannot trace to a stated source.
- Present false precision. Where the honest answer is a wide range, we publish the wide range.
- Shade a figure to make a quote look like a ripoff. A high quote is often a correct quote for a difficult job.
